Greektown Construction Moves Forward, Reopening Set for Summer 2026

A major transformation in Detroit’s Greektown district is expected to be completed by summer 2026.

Crews recently finished installing the first block of granite street pavers at the intersection of Monroe and St. Antoine Streets, marking a significant step forward in the project.

As of August 6, that intersection has reopened to temporary two-way traffic between Lafayette and Gratiot.

According to officials, the project aims to make the area more walkable, safer, and more supportive of local businesses and events. Plans include wider sidewalks, additional greenery, curb-less lanes, and improved lighting.

New features will also include expanded outdoor dining patios, event spaces, public art installations, and signage highlighting the neighborhood’s history.

Greektown remains open during construction.
