Worker Charged After Threatening to Shoot Up Amazon Warehouse Over Not Giving Him His Unemployment Benefits

A Detroit man is facing a felony terrorism charge after police say he threatened-to shoot up an Amazon facility because he was allegedly denied unemployment benefits, officials say.

31-year-old Michael Crooms was charged this week with making a false report or threat of terrorism. Investigators say Crooms posted the threat on social media, prompting Amazon to increase security and temporarily close their gates.

During his arraignment, prosecutors said the threat stemmed from frustration over his unemployment claim being denied. The court was told the Amazon location had only one armed guard at the time and took the post very seriously.

Crooms, who recently started a job at an automotive manufacturer, has no prior criminal history. His defense requested a personal bond, but the judge cited the seriousness of the incident and set bond at $150,000 cash with a GPS tether.
