Michigan State Police executed search warrants Monday at multiple stores inside Greenfield Plaza near 8 Mile, as part of a large-scale fraud investigation into counterfeit merchandise.
Detectives with the MSP Fraud Section say they received a tip that six or more stores were selling fake high-end items, including Gucci, Cartier, and more. Undercover officers were able to buy the counterfeit goods before executing warrants and seizing the items.
Authorities warn that not all stores are involved, but shoppers should expect a strong police presence. “If you can put off the shopping trip, I would suggest you do so,” MSP said.
“Often these counterfeit items contain harmful chemicals that can endanger their health,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “The saying of it seems too good to be true normally is true. Make sure the items you purchase are legit, your health may depend on it.”
