22-Acre Riverfront Park With Sports House, Giant Bear Slide, and More Set to Open This Fall in Detroit

A major piece of the city’s riverfront transformation is nearly complete. The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park is set to open this fall, bringing 22 acres of green space, attractions, and year-round fun to Detroit’s West Riverfront.

Located at West Jefferson and Rosa Parks Boulevard, the park is already taking shape. Crews have started laying down fresh sod, with sprinklers now running and grass beginning to grow. Bright, rubberized safety surfacing has also been installed at the Delta Dental Play Garden, which will feature colorful equipment and a 20-foot-tall bear slide for kids.

One of the park’s highlights is the 2.5-acre Huron-Clinton Metroparks Water Garden. Tucked just off the Detroit River, it will include winding walking paths, a small dock, and an open-air classroom space. During the winter, the water garden will transform into a public skating pond.

Construction is also wrapping up on the William Davidson Sport House, a covered structure housing two full-size basketball courts. Nearby, the DTE Foundation Lawn will serve as a flexible space for outdoor movies, concerts, and neighborhood events.
