Detroit Police Officers Step Up Patrols, Ride DDOT Buses After Two Violent Incidents This Week

After two violent incidents on city buses in less than 24 hours, Detroit police have already added more officers to ride along on DDOT buses throughout the city.

Officers will now be hopping on at various bus stops and riding a few stops to keep passengers safe.

This move comes after a shooting on a DDOT bus late Monday night near 8 Mile and Mound Rd, on the city’s east side.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the chest while riding the bus. The suspect fled on foot, police say
and six people were on board the bus the time. No one else was injured and the victim is expected to survive.

Just a day earlier, another bus-related incident occurred on the city’s west side. A DDOT driver was arrested near 7 Mile and Greenfield after stabbing a passenger who spit on him during an argument over the fare. The passenger suffered multiple injuries.

Detroit police say the added patrols will help prevent further violence and keep public transit riders safe.
