Candlelight vigil held for 17-year-old London Thomas

A candlelight vigil was held Monday evening to honor the life of 17-year-old London Thomas, a missing Inkster teen whose body was tragically found in Southfield over the weekend.

Dozens of heartbroken family members, friends, and community members gathered near 8 Mile and Berg Road, close to the location where London’s body was discovered.

London had been missing since April 5 and was last seen on Carlysle Street in Inkster. Earlier Monday, Inkster police received a tip that led them to the area of 8 Mile and Telegraph in Southfield. Her body was found near a home—inside a vehicle that, according to family, had been parked there for several weeks.

Despite the car’s suspicious presence, the family expressed outrage that no neighbors reported it.

“She was badly decomposed,” family members said, adding that they still don’t know the exact cause of death.

Two suspects are currently in custody in connection with London’s disappearance and death, though their names have not yet been released. The Michigan State Police has taken over the investigation and said the case remains open and active. Once complete, it will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

London’s family shared loving memories of her during the vigil. She loved doing hair and had been working hard since she was just 14 years old.

“London did not deserve this,” her grandmother said.
