DNA test from a dumpster at the apartment complex of the ex-boyfriend of missing Ashley Elkins has came back to her.
32-year-old DeAndre Booker was charged with lying to a police officer. Murder charges are now expected Friday.
“100% DNA match to my daughter Ashley’s DNA came back today! Deandre Booker will be charged with 1st degree murder and will be in court tomorrow,” Ashley’s mother said in a social media post.
During the arraignment earlier this month, it was discovered that he allegedly fled to Flint and began using a search engine to find escape routes to Ohio, how to beat a polygraph & “is blood traceable.”
Ashley Elkins was reported missing by her family in January 2025, after she failed to return home or respond to repeated phone calls and text messages.
State police crime and forensic team were at the ex-boyfriend’s apartment complex in the area of Gratiot & I-696 on Tuesday. Police have executed nearly 20 search warrants, conducted video canvasses, examined digital evidence, and conducted interviews with friends and family members, according to a news release.
Police have determined that there was a strong possibility of foul play involved in this incident at the Hampton Court Apartments. Her vehicle, a silver Chevy Malibu, was recovered in the area of 13 Mile and Little Mack. Additionally, a trash dumpster from the apartments was seized.
According to her mother, she made multiple attempts to contact Ashley, only to receive one brief text message from Ashley’s phone, stating that she was “heading back from a beauty supply store.”
