Cougars are starting to make a comeback in Michigan.
They were wiped out by the early 1900s, with the last known wild cougar legally taken in 1906 near Newberry. For decades, these creatures were absent from Michigan’s landscape.
In recent years, however, cougars have been making a notable return. Numerous cougar sightings have been confirmed across Michigan.
Currently, there have been 82 confirmed cougar sightings in Michigan since 2008.
If you spot a cougar in Michigan, the DNR encourages you to report your sighting using their online reporting tool.
