Michigan teen arrested after allegedly setting ex’s house on fire

A Michigan teen was arrested after he set his ex-girlfriend’s house on fire, according to police.

The incident happened in Maple Forest Township at approximately 3:30 am.

At the time of the fire, there were four people inside the residence who were able to escape without injury. The family home was a total loss, authorities said in a news release.

A juvenile who was inside the home at the time of the fire, reported to deputies that a couple hours before the fire, they had heard some strange noises and while seeing what the noise was, found an individual hiding inside the home, police said.

The juvenile woke up the adults, telling them what had been seen, but no one was located by the family, and everyone went back to bed, officials said.

A couple hours later, the same juvenile woke up everyone in the home, stating the house was on fire. While getting out of the burning home, a suspect was seen running away from the home, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

After an investigation, the 18-year-old former boyfriend was arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
