Innocent driver dead after fiery wrong-way crash on Lodge Freeway

1 driver is dead, and another was critically injured after a wrong-way crash on Lodge Freeway in Detroit.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Friday on the SB lanes of Lodge near Grand River.

State police received calls of a wrong-way Jeep driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the Lodge.

A short time later, they were advised of a crash on the Lodge near Grand River. When troopers arrived on the scene, they found the reported wrong-way jeep and a second SUV with heavy front-end damage.

The innocent driver of the SUV caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed. Troopers attempted to get into the vehicle but were unsuccessful, state police said.

Detroit Fire Dept arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. One unidentified person was located inside and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. 

Troopers were able to get into the wrong way drivers car and removed the driver. The 27-year-old female was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.
