A rollover crash early Saturday morning on Southbound Southfield Freeway near Joy Road has left a 19-year-old woman dead and multiple others injured.
Michigan State Police troopers responded to the scene at approximately 4:50 a.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 39-year-old Dearborn man was driving a van at a high rate of speed when he lost control, causing the van to roll onto its side and slide into a Ford Fusion traveling in the right lane.
The 19-year-old passenger of the van from Pontiac was partially ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two additional passengers in the van were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the Ford Fusion was also taken to the hospital.
The Southfield Freeway was temporarily closed as police conducted their investigation.
“This is yet another example of risky driving behaviors leading to a preventable traffic death,” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. “We are continuing to ask Michiganders to be more careful when they are behind the wheel. Slow down, buckle up, pay attention. Your passengers’ lives are depending on it.”
