Mother fatally shoots special needs son, then herself in Warren home

Warren police are investigating a shooting that left two people dead early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened in the block of Geoffrey near 12 Mile & Schoenherr at around 8:30 a.m.

According to a Warren police news release, preliminary investigation into this incident has shown that, 08:22 am, Warren Police Units were dispatched to a residence regarding a domestic assault.

A 33-year-old male called 911 and reported that his mother had pointed at gun at him this morning shortly after he awoke, police said in a news release. A brief struggle ensued with the 33-year-old male running to a neighbor’s house for help. 911 was then contacted with officers arriving on scene.

Officers attempted contact with the mother at the residence however she would not respond. Moments later, officers heard multiple shots coming from inside the home, police said.

Officers made entry into the residence and discovered that the mother had shot her 26-year-old special needs child and then herself, according to officials.

Both the mother and her son were pronounced dead at the scene. From what investigators have learned so far, there does appear to be a mental health history with the mother.
