Teens car catches on fire after buying it off Facebook Marketplace

A teenager lost his car Friday night after purchasing it for a couple of thousand dollars on Facebook Marketplace.

We joined the Bloomfield Township Police Department for a ride-along this evening. Officers responded to a car fire in the area of Woodward & Square Lake, initially believing that someone might still be trapped inside.

Upon arrival, they found that everyone had safely exited the vehicle. The driver reported buying the car on Facebook Marketplace for $2,800, and while driving it that night, it suddenly caught fire. Although several people were inside the vehicle at the time, fortunately, no one was injured.

In preparation for the Woodward Dream Cruise next week, Bloomfield Township police have intensified efforts to crack down on speeding and reckless driving. They are part of a multi-jurisdictional team in Oakland County dedicated to keeping the roads safe.
