11-year-old drowns at Oakland County Lake

An 11-year-old boy has died after drowning in Oakland County on Saturday.

The incident happened around 6:30 PM at the Holly Recreation Area

Michigan State Police received calls about a child missing in the water at the Holly Recreation Area.

When troopers arrived, the investigation determined that an 11-year-old boy was playing with another boy. The 11-year-old had an inner tube floatation device and was out in the water approximately 10 feet from the shore.

The child he was playing with was on the shore, and he saw the 11-year-old go under the water, come back up, and call for help before going back under. The child began yelling for help, at which point patrons on the beach started to search the water.

Oakland County Marine Services arrived and began searching the water. At 7:25 PM, the child was located, and CPR was started. The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
