Woman charged in birthday party crash that left two dead released after paying $1.5 million bond

A woman has been charged in connection to the crash that left two kids dead and 13 others injured during a birthday party in Monroe County is free after posting her $1.5 million bond.

Marshella Chidester, 66, was charged with second degree murder, operating while intoxicated and other charges. Her bond was set at $1.5 million (no 10%) cash/surety. It was posted Thursday.

At around 3 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to 6332 Brancheau Rd in Berlin Township, County of Monroe regarding a motor vehicle that struck a building at the Swan Boat Club.

The vehicle struck the north wall of the facility, entered the building and came to rest approximately 25 feet inside the building, where a young child’s birthday party was being held.

The victims have been identified as siblings 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips. Their mother, and 11-year-old brother remain in critical condition at the hospital.

During arraignment, prosecutors said Marshella was drunk driving, and her blood level was above the legal limit. Her attorney alleges she had a seizure and had never been in trouble with the law, not even a ticket.
