Woman obsessed with man at gym, put tracker on his car then pistol-whipped his girlfriend

An Oakland County woman was charged after she allegedly put a tracker on a man she fell in love with and pistol-whipped his girlfriend.

The incident happened on March 29 at around 8:19 a.m. in the 90 block of W Shevlin, near 10 Mile and I-75 in Hazel Park.

Police responded to the location for a woman who was shot. The victim was not shot but was struck by a pistol while seated in her car, police said.

She described the suspect to officers as an Asian woman in her 50s that was looking for an address as a “door dash” delivery person, police said. The suspect fled in a gray Ford F-150 pickup.

Hazel Park Detectives developed a suspect, Jie YU, a 52-year-old female of Rochester.

The suspect was arrested and admitted to being in Hazel Park and said that she “wanted to scare” the victim. The firearm used in the assault was recovered from the suspect’s purse in the Ford F-150.

The investigation continued as interviews with the suspect’s story would change or not make sense, police said.

A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s residence that led to a recovery of items used in the crime. Also recovered were GPS tracking device packaging.

The victim was re-interviewed, and her vehicle was checked by detectives locating a tracking device attached to her car. Detectives contacted the victim’s boyfriend who checked his vehicle and located a tracking device attached to his car.

Police say the victim and boyfriend had no connection to the suspect.

The suspect was re-interviewed and ultimately admitted she was obsessively in love with the victim’s boyfriend after seeing him at the fitness gym. She began to stalk/track the boyfriend and victim for a period leading up to the assault.

The suspect now faces charges of:

▪️2 counts Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony- 2 year Felony
▪️Weapons – Carrying Concealed- 5 year Felony
▪️Stalking – Aggravated -5 year Felony
▪️Motor vehicle tracking device violation 1 Year misdemeanor

Jie Yu was arraigned and bond was set at $1,000,000 cash-surety.
