Homeless man dies after freezing to death in Oakland County

A homeless man has died after exposure to cold temperatures on Sunday.

Police found the 60-year-old man unresponsive outside around 12:25 p.m. in Orion Township, Oakland County.

“If you know of people that are homeless, shelters and warming centers are important with subzero temperatures. Please be extra careful with your pets, and take extra care of the elderly. When you travel in your car, make sure you have warm clothing with you in case you have any issues,” the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.

A Wind Chill Warning remains in effect for Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties, where wind chills are as low as -25 degrees.
