A 23-year-old Detroit man was charged after he allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in the back on Christmas Day.
On Monday, December 25, 2023, Deandre Patrick Lawrence allegedly went to his ex-girlfriend’s house to deliver presents to his three children. It is alleged that while at the residence, he got into a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend’s live-in boyfriend, according to prosecutors.
The boyfriend fled the house, and Lawrence followed him. The boyfriend tripped and fell to the ground. Lawrence allegedly then shot the boyfriend twice in the back while the victim was on the ground.
Lawrence is charged with Assault with Intent to Murder (life felony), and Felony Firearm (two-year mandatory felony). Lawrence was arraigned in Warren 37th District Court by District Court Judge Steve Bieda where bond was set at $1 Million cash/surety. “Violent actions have no place in resolving disputes. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family. We will work to ensure accountability for this terrible Christmas Day shooting,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
