Detroit police announced Monday the addition of new non-lethal tools as well as body-worn camera upgrades for officers.
They have added PepperBall launchers, Defense Tech 40mm foam bullet launchers, and body-worn cameras with upgraded software.
” We always want to go out and resolve issues as peacefully as we can and these tools will give us an opportunity to do that,” said #Detroit Police Assistant Chief Eric Ewing. “For instance, if someone had a knife or someone had a bat or something like that out on the street we’re able to resolve that without using deadly force.”
The announcement comes after four officer shootings since October 2.
“Looking over the past year, where there have been several incidents that occurred in the city where officers were physically attacked and if we were provided with different tools we would have had a different outcome,” Ewing said.
