6-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in Drive-By While Inside Detroit Home

A 6-year-old boy is dead after being struck in the head by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting in Detroit.

The tragic incident happened Sunday night at a home on Anglin, close to East McNichols and Joseph Campau.

The boy was inside playing when multiple shots rang out. Shell casings from a rifle were found scattered across the street.

Witnesses reported seeing at least two vehicles involved in a shootout, with a red Jeep currently being looked at as a vehicle of interest.

One of the rounds traveled down the block and into a residential home, striking the 6-year-old. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

“This is one of our most precious citizens, a resident of the city of Detroit, who lost their life tonight for this senseless violence,” said Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison. “We’ll catch you. Trust us when we say that. We have an excellent track record. We have technology and we will bring them to justice.”

He said the investigation is still active and ongoing.

“We’re going to utilize all of our technology and I’m confident that we’ll be able to apprehend the individual who’s responsible for this,” Chief Bettison said. “Citizens of Detroit don’t tolerate this, especially when it comes to babies, young people being shot.”
