5 arrested after attempted theft of SRT Dodge Durangos

5 people were arrested after they attempted to steal 5 Dodge Durangos SRTs valued at over $500,000 in Warren.

At around 06:35am, Warren Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to Ground Effects Automotive (1990 Concept Drive) regarding a group of suspicious persons.

A caller reported that there was a group of individuals in the rear parking lot near where several new Dodge/Stellantis products were parked. Officers arrived on scene l and encountered a new Dodge Durango attempting to intentionally ram the security gate at the business and flee. A second new Dodge Durango also attempted to intentionally ram the security gate.

Due to the crash, both Dodge Durangos became disabled at which time several suspects exited the vehicles and all fled the scene on foot in various directions.

After a short foot pursuit and area search, Warren Patrol Officers located and arrested 5 suspects. One suspect was not able to be located. Two 16-year-old and two 17-year-old juveniles from #Detroit along with a 24-year-old Detroit resident were all taken into custody, police said.

The investigation has shown that the suspects targeted and attempted to steal 6 new Dodge Durangos, 5 of which were Dodge Durango SRT models.

The suspects attempted to intentionally ram the security gate so that they could then exit the parking lot in the freshly stolen vehicles, police said. All of the attempted stolen vehicles were recovered on scene. So far, investigators believe the value of the attempted theft and damaged property is around $500,000.00.
