$40 million housing campus opens in Detroit to help people transition from homelessness

The Pope Francis Center’s new Bridge Housing Campus has opened in Detroit.

The $40 million facility is the first of its kind in Michigan, specifically designed to help people transition from homelessness.

The Bridge Housing Campus includes 40 studio apartments, classrooms, a commercial kitchen, cafeteria, medical clinic, gymnasium and barber shop. One of its most unique features is an outdoor shelter area with heated sidewalks and overhead radiant heaters.

The center will provide a solution to chronic homelessness featuring intensive, all-encompassing support services, according to the city.
