Three people were injured – one gravely – when two cars that were racing hit a third car that was doing donuts in an intersection, ejecting that driver from his vehicle onto the pavement.
The crash happened about 9:45 p.m. Thursday on East South Boulevard at the intersection Centerpoint Parkway in Pontiac.
A 2016 Ford Focus being driven by a 19-year-old Waterford Township man and a Nissan 350Z being driven by an 18-year-old Jackson man, were racing on East South Boulevard when their vehicles struck a third car, a Dodge Challenger being driven by a 24-year-old Saint Clair Shores man. The Challenger had been reported stolen from Toledo and was doing donuts in the intersection when it was hit first by the Ford Focus and then by the Nissan.
The Saint Clair Shores man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the Challenger. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in grave condition.
The Jackson man and a passenger in the Nissan were also hospitalized and were listed in stable condition. Both men were believed to be wearing seat belts. The driver of the Ford Focus was treated at the scene for minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.
“Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash although reckless driving on the part of all three drivers does appear to be a factor, which is being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit,” police said.
