Wolverine Packing Co., a Detroit-based meat processing company, has issued a recall of approximately 167,277 pounds of ground beef products due to potential contamination with E. coli O157:H7, a bacterium that can cause serious health risks.
The recall was initiated after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service was notified on November 13 of several illnesses in linked to the company’s ground beef.
Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of E. coli O157:H7 in samples collected from the affected products.
The recalled items include both fresh ground beef and frozen ground beef. As of November 20, fifteen illnesses have been reported, with no fatalities.
