13-year-old boy arrested after accidentally shooting teen sister when she went to park to fight other girl

A 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody after police say he accidentally shot his teenage sister during a fight at a Detroit park.

The shooting happened Wednesday evening at Wish Egan Field near 8 Mile and Schoenherr. Investigators say the siblings went to the park to confront another girl when the boy pulled out a-gun and fired, striking his 15-year-old sister in the arm. She is expected to be OK.

Police identified the 13-year-old as the shooter and placed him under arrest.

Authorities are still working to determine how the boy got the weapon.

Police noted that the injured girl has an extensive criminal record that includes past arrests for assault and illegal weapon possession.

The investigation remains ongoing.
