13-Year-Old Battling Cancer, DJ Daniel, Sworn In as Honorary Officer Across 3 Metro Detroit Departments

“DJ” Daniel, a 13-year-old boy battling brain and spinal cancer, was given a police escort Saturday as he was sworn in as an honorary police officer with the Dearborn Heights, Dearborn, and Melvindale Police Departments.

DJ has been visiting police stations across the country to follow his dream of joining law enforcement. Officers welcomed him, gave him badges, and made him part of their departments.

“We are honored as a community to have DJ in our building,” Dearborn Heights Police Chief Ahmed Haider said Saturday.

“At 13 years old, DJ has shown bravery and commitment,” Police Chief Issa Shanin of Dearborn said.

“This is what brings the community together. This is what brings the nation together. This is what we need more of,” Cpl. Mohamed Hachem of Melvindale Police said.

The Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) joined the celebration, gifting DJ a club jacket.

The 12th Congressional District Republicans also honored DJ by presenting him with a certificate and naming him an Honorary Sergeant-at-Arms.

The day brought smiles, cheers, and strong community support as DJ continues his fight.
