$100 Million lawsuit filed against Warren police after crash that left 2 dead

A $100,000,000 lawsuit has been filed against Warren police on behalf of Cedric Hayden Jr. and DeJuan Pettis, who lost their lives in a crash involving a Warren Police vehicle.

The deadly crash occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at the intersection of Schoenherr and Prospect in Warren.

The victims, Cedric Hayden Jr., 34, and DeJuan Pettis, 33, were struck by a police car while driving their Dodge Durango.

According to the lawsuit, Fieger alleges that the police car was traveling at an “excessive and illegal speed” without its overhead lights or sirens activated. The firm claims to have obtained video footage supporting their allegations that the officer’s reckless driving directly caused the fatal collision.

The two men were lifelong best friends, and their deaths have left their families and community devastated. The lawsuit, filed in Macomb County Circuit Court, names the City of Warren and the two police officers involved in the crash as defendants.

An independent investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.

While the investigation continues, the families of Hayden and Pettis, are pushing to hold those responsible accountable for what they believe was a preventable tragedy. They are demanding $100 million in damages for the wrongful death of their loved ones, according to the news release

The law firm expects to file additional lawsuits related to the crash. Video of the crash can be found in previous post.
